Amber has become the first person in our family to earn an advanced degree in biology. She is officially a master. She presented her thesis defense to her committee yesterday and passed with flying colors. David took the day off of work and he and I went early to help her set up her modest buffet and generally be a source of moral support. She was nervous, as one might imagine, but it was all for naught. The girl knows her stuff. While most of what she spoke of went far over my head, it was apparant during the question and answer period that she clearly possessed the required knowledge to earn this honor. I am so proud of her.
Of course, afterward celebration ensued at The Lincoln Lounge. And, yes, the bar is named for our great past president decorated with portraits of him all over. This was my favorite:

While alcohol flowed freely, and shuffle board games ran constantly, I took a minute to snap some photos of Amber on her big day.

We took a picture of just the kids for Vicki.

This is Amber's advisor, Mike, who stopped by and bought her first drink.

Congratulations, Amber! Well done!
